Denham Springs High School Students Visit Gator Millworks
This summer, students from Denham Springs High School’s Jump Start program joined us for a tour of our facilities. Led by instructor Kenneth Lang, the level-two carpentry students experienced firsthand how millwork is designed, crafted and brought to life. The program is designed for students who may not plan to attend college but want to build valuable skills toward a journeyman certification.
Exploring the Process
The visit began in our current office and manufacturing space where students learned about our processes, technology and company culture. From there, they explored our new facility still under construction, giving them a glimpse of the growth and opportunities ahead. Lang shared that the goal of visits like this is to keep education modern and relevant, showing students how carpentry continues to evolve with technology.
Inspiring the Next Generation
For us, the tour was an opportunity to invest in local education and show students that custom millwork offers career paths beyond the shop floor. From engineering to drafting and project management, the woodworking industry provides a wide range of opportunities. As Lang said, it was important for the students to see not just what we are doing now, but what we envision for the future.
Growing Together
“We’re always looking to invest in our parish and bring in employees from our local community to help us grow,” said Kort McDonough, Business Process Manager. Experiences like this give students a chance to see the possibilities that come with a career in millwork while allowing us to strengthen our connection to the next generation of skilled professionals.
