Denham Springs High School Students Visit Gator Millworks
Students in Denham Springs High School’s summer Jump Start program visited Gator Millworks for an educational tour.
Kenenth Lang and his carpentry students were given a guided tour through Gator’s facilities featuring a review of the company’s millwork processes and an opportunity to experience the unique culture.
The Jump Start program helps students who don’t plan on going to college by allowing them to earn credit toward a skilled labor certification. By the end of June, Lang’s level-two carpentry students will be one step closer to becoming certified journeymen.
“In order to keep our approach modern, we have field trips such as this. We want to make sure the kids are understanding the current use of carpentry technology which Gator Millworks is doing an excellent job of. I felt it was important that we see not only what the company has been doing, but what it envisions to do,” said Lang, Denham Springs High School instructor.
For Gator Millworks, the tour was an exciting opportunity to invest in the local community and develop the students’ interest in the woodworking industry.
“We’re always looking to invest in our parish and bring in employees from our local community to help us grow,” stated Kort McDonough, Gator Millworks’ Business Process Manager.
